Ellie’s family farm sits above the valley floor in Hemsedal, three and a half hours from Bergen. Forty guests flew in from Manchester and Leeds; Joel and I flew in two days early to walk the farm and find the covered spots for the rain plan.

It rained until five. We moved the portraits from three to six, kept the family groups under the barn roof and put the clear umbrellas by the door. The cloud lifted off the mountain at five to six, and most of the portraits were made in the long grass at the far end of the field, with the two of them small against the valley.
